We’re a small team with a big mission. As email management experts and engineers, we’ve looked all over for email tools that work. As people who enjoy our privacy, we’ve also looked all over for tools that let us keep it. That’s why when we built InMoat, we didn’t want to rely on machine learning models that leverage user information—we wanted to see if there was a better way. Our mission is simple: keep your inbox clean, and keep your data in your own hands.
In order to do this, we spent the last five years manually gathering and analyzing hundreds of thousands of emails that have been voluntarily shared with us by our earliest supporters. Today InMoat’s filters are completely human-generated, by us. We create our filters the good old-fashioned way: by gathering our own research and experience, picking out patterns in our test emails, and stitching together complex logic and exhaustive lists of keywords, all by hand.
This sounds ridiculous, but our efforts have paid off. Today our users can create their own personalized email experience, all without having to give away their data from the moment they sign up. This has been our plan from the start (and it still is).
But along the way, we learned how difficult it is to anticipate what our users need without asking them directly. Our set of test emails has gotten us pretty far, but it can’t help us tailor InMoat to all our users without being as diverse as they are.
The truth is, we simply can’t keep up with user demands unless we have access to a constant stream of data. In order to create more personalized filters and features for our users in a timely manner, we need a quicker and more thorough way to know what they need.
That’s why we’re asking our community for help.
At InMoat, we’re huge proponents of data privacy and transparency. Rather than subtly incorporating consent within the fine print of our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, we want to make sure our users fully understand what data we’ll be using—and how we’ll be using it—before giving their explicit consent. And we want to make sure that we only collect data from users who do give that consent, and no one else.
We believe that’s the only right thing to do.
For folks who may not be able to afford InMoat’s annual subscription plan, or for users who’d just like a discount, we’re offering the Pay With Email plan.
When you sign up for the Pay with Email plan, you receive full access to InMoat for one year, including all features, for free. Any feature paid users get, free users get too. No exceptions.
In exchange, we ask your consent to store and use data about the emails you receive. We’ll use the data for the sole purpose of improving InMoat’s email filters and nothing else.
We scratch your back, you scratch ours.
InMoat is only seeking identifiable patterns in the data, such as trending keywords and metadata, that improve the filters for all users, not just one individual.
We will NEVER look at the content of emails you are sending. We don’t store them ever. We're only focused on incoming emails.
We will NEVER use, nor are we interested in, any personally-identifiable information such as:
We will periodically analyze our dataset for patterns (such as trending keywords and metadata) without the use of machines. The patterns we identify will only be used to help build new filters and improve existing ones.
Only two (2) InMoat product team members will have access to stored email data. InMoat will never share nor sell your data with any external parties. We won’t even share it with other InMoat employees.
The data about the emails you receive will be added to a larger dataset along with data from other opted-in users. We will NEVER look for patterns from a single individual’s dataset.
For example, if you opt in to the Pay With Email plan, we won't look through only your stored email data (we don’t care to know anything specific about you, although we’re sure you’re amazing! 😉). We only care about finding patterns across the entire dataset as a whole, so we could benefit all users.
Until you give your explicit consent, none of your email data will be stored.
Once you give your explicit consent, each email will only be stored for a maximum of twelve (12) months from the day you provide consent. Afterwards, we will immediately and permanently remove your data from our servers.
InMoat is only seeking identifiable patterns in the data, such as trending keywords
